Mother's Day is a festival to express gratitude to mothers
Mother's Day originated in the United States. The initiator of this holiday was Anna Jarvis from Philadelphia. On May 9, 1906, Anna Jarvis' mother unfortunately passed away, and she was extremely sad. On the anniversary of her mother's death the following year, Jarvis organized an event to commemorate her mother and encouraged others to express their gratitude to their loving mothers in a similar way.
Jarvis wrote to the local church, requesting a special memorial service for her mother, who had served the church for more than 20 years. In 1908, the church declared the second Sunday in May, the anniversary of Jarvis's mother's death, as Mother's Day. Jarvis also organized a Mother's Day committee and began a large-scale campaign to make Mother's Day a legal holiday.
Her call received a warm response. On May 10, 1913, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives passed a resolution to designate the first Sunday in May as Mother's Day. This move was followed by many countries around the world. By the time Jarvis passed away in 1948, 43 countries had established Mother's Day.
In the 1980s, Mother's Day was gradually accepted by the people in mainland China. Since 1988, some cities in southern China, such as Guangzhou, have begun to hold Mother's Day celebrations.
At the end of the 20th century, as China became increasingly integrated with the world, Mother's Day became increasingly popular throughout mainland China, and more and more people began to accept the concept of Mother's Day.
On Mother's Day, people give their mothers flowers, cakes, homemade meals and other gifts. Chinese children, who have been filial to their parents since childhood, will try to cook for their mothers, wash their faces, put on makeup, play music, draw pictures, and make their mothers happy on the holiday.
"A loving mother sews the clothes for her son" has been a part of Chinese traditional culture since ancient times. Many people have also drawn nourishment from tradition to promote and develop Chinese Mother's Day.
Filial piety has always been an important part of Chinese traditional culture and the social, cultural and psychological foundation for a country's stability. Economic support, daily care and spiritual comfort are the basic contents of filial piety practiced by the Chinese people from ancient times to the present. Filial piety is the long-standing human ethics of the Chinese nation. The existence of Mother's Day allows people to express their love to their mothers and enhance their emotions.
In May, the most beautiful day is Mother's Day. In the world, mothers are the most tired. On this warm and beautiful day, give your mother a hug and express your deep gratitude to her. And send the best wishes to all mothers in the world, wishing them peace, health and happy holidays!
